The One Woman Show

Day 5 Block 2

Today we spent the whole day filming Andrea. It was mentally and physically draining for all of us, not to mention Andrea herself. But whatever it is, we have completed filming. Well done everyone!

We had Joel over as a special guest today. I must say, his segment of the show was SUPER funny. We came up with lots of comical ideas on the spot and the final outcome was well.. SUPERB. I’d like to thank Joel a lot, I know that his group isn’t doing too well, but still he manages to find time to help us out. THANK YOU JOEL. We are very grateful, I’m sure of that.

We had lunch together today, and we chatted about random stuff like weddings. I really feel that our group has bonded a lot through Project 1. I really like working with them.

Production is over, time for Post-production. Hope everything goes smoothly. Right now I’m thinking of all the animations that are needed for the entire video. What is the best way to do them and how we can achieve it.

Here are some pictures of today.

Animate the World through Animations

Day 4 Block 2

Today’s filming was done in the TV studio. I met Boon Bin at his house and took a lift on his father’s lorry. When we got there I helped Boon Bin set up the lighting in the studio. I enjoy watching him set-up the lighting, and even more so being part of setting it up. Why? Because eventually, it always turns out to look fantastic. I am so very thankful to have Boon Bin as a group member, as he teaches me a lot about setting up and handling the camera, not just doing everything on his own.

When everyone arrived, we started shooting. I must say, I am very proud of my group. We work like a well oiled machine. We get along well, work well together, and have fun while we work. I have been hearing that many groups are having internal disagreements and boy am I glad it isn’t happening to my group.

We finished up the advert and cleared the studio to the liking of the next group that was waiting to use the TV studio. I am proud that we as a group are a tolerant bunch of people and we do not throw our temper. Good Job guys. (:

That was all for today. Tomorrow, we will be filming all of Anchor Andrea’s scenes. Please take care of yourself Andrea, we need you to have your voice tomorrow.

Do you know what they call a quarter-pounder in France?

Day 3 Block 2

I love filming with my group! Today we completed two scenes. One at the war memorial and the other at Kallang Leisure Park. I went over to BB’s house in the morning to help him with the equipment. We met the rest of the group at City Hall. We were kind of late because of me, I woke up late. What’s new?

When we got to City Hall, all of us, which is Andrea, BB, Clarissa, Rina, and I, made our way to old Parliament House. Yvonne couldn’t join us as she had lessons. When we got there we realized filming was not allowed, as the security guard came to stop us. At least we know he’s doing his job.

Minor setback, it will not bother us! With my team or quick-witted members, we abandoned plans of shooting there and went across the field to shoot at the War Memorial instead. The one that says ‘Our Glorious Dead’.

That scene didn’t really take a long time, only thing was that Clarissa and I had to make sure that the road was clear for Reporter Rina to run across. So we warned them whenever a car/van/lorry/bus was coming. On top of that we had to keep an eye on our belongings. There was this very suspicious group of people eyeing our bags.

With the scene done, we headed over to Raffles Place, where we wanted to shoot some havoc scenes. On the way there A-team discussed some animations. Clarissa talked about how she was thinking of animating the 1m hand sculpture. V-team gave us some ideas too.

We got there and Boon Bin started filming the crowd scenes he wanted. Yvonne couldn’t borrow an SLR from school as we needed one for our shoot today. Seems that there has been a change in how we borrow cameras. I made a few calls and got one of my high school friends to loan me her SLR. So Andrea and I went all the way to Seng Kang to collect the camera, and then to Kallang to rejoin the group.

We kind of got lost on the way there, but fortunately, Andrea ‘the super genius’ found us the way there. We met Yvonne there, and Rina had already left for her class. We had lunch at Kallang Leisure Park and then went on to do the shoot. It was fun. BB was hilarious. Just right for the character he was trying to portray. I handled the camera for this shot. I am so proud of myself. (:

After the shoot, Andrea, BB, and I went over to Clarissa’s place to watch this movie she’s been recommending. Pulp Fiction. It was awesome, the dialogue in the film was amazing. So was the food at Clarissa’s.

Tomorrow we are going to shoot our advertisement that is to be shown during our News 6 commercial.

We're going to see the sprinker-lers

Day 2 Block 2

Today was a blast! I had LOADS of fun. Unfortunately, Clarissa couldn’t join us because her grandma fell and she had to take care of her. We started the day in the morning. We met at the TV studio. Surprisingly, there wasn’t anyone there. Boon Bin, Yvonne, and Rina were already there when I reached. We went to get some snacks while waiting for Boss-woman, Andrea Lek, to turn up. We then went back to the TV studio. We decided to watch TV while waiting for Andrea, using the TV in the TV studio. Somehow Boon Bin managed to rig everything up and we were able watch Hi-5 from the audio room that was connected to the TV studio. He even mic-ed up the TV so we could hear the audio from the speakers in the other room. It’s quite confusing but basically, we watched Hi-5 from the TV which was in the TV studio (didn’t move it out) through the glass pane while sitting in the audio room beside it.

Amazing guy that Boon Bin is. Anyway, when Andrea arrived we decided to quickly make use of the studio since no one was using it. We decided to film our Dr MOI scene. We quickly set-up our lights, borrowed a sofa from Jake’s group. This scene had no audio. Boon Bin hooked up his camera to the TV we were watching earlier, so we could see ourselves on the TV. Wonderful, I love him. Haha. No, I’m not gay, I didn’t mean it that way.

After a quick change of casting, I ended up as the new Dr MOI. Andrea Lim came in and complained about us using their props. We pleaded with her to let us use it just for a little while. Before long, we finished up with the scene and cleared the set. We put everything back in it’s original location. I’m glad I have such responsible group members.

Next up, Boon Bin’s interview. It was supposed to be shot in the gallery, however, we found out that we are not allowed to use the gallery for shooting. So we cleared the area and went to the tutorial rooms to think of alternatives. We had our late lunch there. The air-con was so nice that the group almost fell asleep. Honestly, I did.

Eventually we went to Bedok Reservoir to get some inspiration. Had some fun there riding on Boon Bin’s trolley. Andrea was screaming her head off.

Finally we decided to shoot at the Triangle Gardens. We used Boon Bin’s trolley to do a tracking shot. After countless but/and humourous takes, we finally got over with the interview. I went to collect my 1 meter hand sculpture for tomorrows shoot.
After that we took another ride on Boon Bin’s trolley. Andrea agreed to give Boon Bin and I a ride. Along the way, she kept singing this annoying song (we’re going to see the sprinklers). In the end we got bored and Boon Bin offered to push the trolley instead. So Andrea took a sit and Boon Bin gave us a super wild ride, which ended with him losing control of the trolley and us getting sprayed by the sprinklers and landing in the patch of grass. -.-

Yvonne and Rina went home after that, the rest of us stayed on the hitch a ride on Boon Bin’s dad’s lorry. While waiting, Boon Bin and I decided to head down to Cheers to get some food and drinks. Boon Bin said he was tired, so I suggested for him to sit on the roller chair that is found in the tutorial rooms while I push him to cheers. We ended up doing just that. He pushed me there and I pushed him back to design.

I had SO SO SO SO SO much FUN today. I really like working with my group. We really get our work done but at the same time, we have loads of fun too. What more can I ask for?

First day of Filming - Clarissa interviews Yvonne

Day 1 Block 2

Asked Andrea if I could turn up late and stay home to do some storyboards instead. The plan for today was to shoot in flags, Yvonne’s interview, and then Boon Bin’s interview.

When I got to school, the group was at Hereafter. Clarissa and Yvonne were doing their interview. They looked like they were having lots of fun. From what I heard, they took 2 hours to set up the lighting. I am so proud of my group. They all looked very serious about filming, but at the same time, we were having loads of fun. Andrea brought donuts for us, how nice. I got to eat two. (:

When we finished shooting Yvonne’s scene, we decided that it was too late to shoot Boon Bin’s interview. So much for coming to school in formal wear. Oh well. We didn’t manage to shoot the flags due to the bad weather.

Something bad came up too, our bookings of the tv studio wasn’t on time and Jake’s group got the studio instead. Not to worry, Alfie saved the day, he gave us a different date to use the studio. We did a quick reshuffling of our schedule and were good to go.

Tomorrow we shall film Boon Bin’s interview.

Last day of Block 1

Day 15 Block 1

Our group was at 50% strength today. Miss Lek, Miss Glass, and Miss Wong couldn’t make it for our presentation. But everything went well. We were able to present what we have so far. It went smoothly and again, we got constructive comments from classmates and Alfie.

Alfie reminded us to email him about the dates where we need to use the studio. Fortunately I didn’t have to show them my storyboards. Haha. We showed the class our schedule though.

That was basically it for the last day of block 1. Next week we shall start filming. Cannot wait. (:
Somehow, I cannot help but feel that we’re actually behind time. All the other groups are already busy filming, running around with their cameras. Are we really that well paced or are our planning not very well done?

I guess I’ll settle for the former. Go NEWS 6. We’re halfway there.

HAHA.. ugly storyboard.. HAHAHA!

Day 14 Block 1

I did a draft of the storyboards. I told the group that the storyboards are going to be drafty. Why? Cause I don’t want to be drawing a really really nice one and then have them tell me to change it.

In my opinion, it looks horrible. Haha. But then again, maybe I’m being too hard on myself. One thing’s for sure, this isn’t the final storyboard that I’m going to hand in together with the production package.

Met up today, our beloved boss-woman, Andrea Lek Xin Hui, couldn’t make it today. I realized how much of a leader she was. We got a little lost at where to start, what to do for the day initially. Fortunately, Clarissa Glass was there to save the day. We discussed what we were going to show in our presentation tomorrow. I hope I won’t have to show my horrible storyboards tomorrow. Hahaha.

Block 1 is ending, we’re going to film soon. Hopefully everyone stays in good health for our entire week of filming planned. Oh, note to self, please remind group to book studio and other shooting locations through Alfie.

Overslept..

Day 13 Block 1

I overslept today. Overslept big time. The group got together and discussed about the script and the shots they wanted. I stayed at home.

I started thinking about the animations for the video. We have already decided on an animation to be at the end of the video. I decided to start doing a few sketches, character designs. I started thinking if I should make them fierce, cute, dumb, or cool. I decided to draw one of every kind. I also thought of the shapes. Should they be roundish, anatomically correct, lanky, or simplistic.

After finishing my sketches, I went on to ponder more on how my character should turn out. I started thinking of things like:

- How many characters should there be?
- What kind of characteristics should they have?
- Should they all have the same character?
- Should they all look the same?

Okay, I better get to sleep early today. Can’t wait to see everyone tomorrow.

Recce/ noun/ pronounce: [rek-ee]

Day 12 Block 1

We got together as a group again today. After our lunch, we went around the school to recce places we intended to shoot at. Through this recce we decided it was better if we changed certain shots and parts of the script. Overall, I feel the trip around the school was a fruitful one.

Block 1 of Project One is coming to an end. Time is running out, and we should get things done fast. Good thing we’re still on schedule.

Because we think two head can come up with more when they're not reliant on each other

Day 11 Block 1

We’re still working on our scripts. Andrea and I decided not to meet up today. We both agree on generating separate ideas then comparing them later on.

I was thinking of questions that I could ask in my interview. I also spent some time thinking about the ending of the video. I wanted to have something subtle, something people would not get right away, but when they actually think about it, it enforces the whole purpose of our video.

Andrea is going to come over tomorrow to finalise our part of the script.

Valentine's Day.. was kind of a disappointment.

Day 10 Block 1

We were supposed to meet up and discuss our parts of the script in our pairs. However, Andrea and I decided to go home ad think about it. So we took a break for today and celebrated Valentine’s Day.

We should be called Chicken Cutlet with Nacho Cheese

Day 9 Block 1

We got our storyboard for the intro down today. We used the whiteboard to do our planning. We all contributed ideas to how we want certain shots. Somehow I always have the same kind of ideas as Boon Bin. Because of this, I had to help the rest of the group visualise the kind of shots he was talking about. In the end we all managed to understand each other and chose the best and most feasible idea.

I think it’s great that we object to each other’s ideas, because through this, we can improve on our ideas or see that our idea may not be appropriate for certain scenes. Somehow, we sidetracked at some part of our discussion and started talking about the roles that we would play when we go into production. We officially split our group into two parts, Animation team (A-team), and the Video team (V-team).

Here are the groupings:
A-team V-team
Clarissa Andrea
Dion Boon Bin
Rina Yvonne

On top of that, for the script, we have split ourselves into groups or two, to write up different parts of the script. I was paired up with Andrea, and we are supposed to plan the script for Boon Bin’s interview.

Our discussion ended the same way it always does, in the canteen, with chicken cutlet and nacho cheese. (:

Can... Not... Think...

Day 8 Block 1

Today is by far one of the worst discussion days. We are all brain dead, and the evil Rubik's cube is a great distraction. Damn. Haha. Nonetheless, we managed to finish what we were gathered for. we decided on what portfolio works we wanted to cover in the video.

Oh, we were supposed to do the storyboards today, but for the benefit of everyone (especially Andrea), we postponed it, so that we would not screw it up just because we weren't concentrating.

Finally, after everything was over, we headed over to the canteen. Yes, still as a group, and we ordered... (drum roll)
CHICKEN CUTLET WITH NACHO CHEESE! yay!
Rest well everyone, tomorrow we shall get back on schedule. (:

Monday, February 11, 2008

And then there was News 6..

Day 7 Block 1

Back to school again. It feels good to be back, possibly because I really like working with my group.

Went for class as usual. Alfie had a few new ideas for us. He told us how we could include seniors in our video as they would be shooting their FYPs. That would serve a great purpose in showing what MOI is about. Personally, I don't like the idea. If we were to shoot seniors, the set, the cast, they're all not from us. Basically, we'll get a good video with minimal effort. I'd rather do it myself, experience what it's like, and at the end of the day be greatly satisfied with what I have produced with my group members.

After we were dismissed, we went on to start our serious discussion. We came up with a few names for our groups and finally decided on NEWS 6. No prizes for guessing how we came up with that. On top of that, we came up with loads of funny ideas. I'm sure our video would be a very hilarious one, and what better group to do a comical news cast than the one I have right now. All my group members have a great sense of humour! Not to mention, different kinds of humour too. I am glad to be working with this group, I feel that we are generating loads of great ideas and we're quite honest with our comments. Good going!

Presentation Day

Day 6 Block 1

Our group is back in full force. Very happy. We met up earlier because Clarissa and I didn't come to school the previous day and we had to discuss our roles in the presentation. We also did some refining of the powerpoint slides.

The presentation itself was a rather informal and relaxed one. Overall, it went pretty well. We managed to put across what our ideas were. The other groups presented after us. I must say, they are all very creative people. All of them had interesting ideas.

Through the presentation, we managed to get constructive comments from both our classmates and Alfie. We decided to think about them and try to improve on the current idea we have now. As for me, I am actually grateful we had a presentation, where we can share our ideas, help improve other people's ideas. It was great in helping us improve .

After presentation we went for LUNCH. I think my group loves lunch time. By now I know at least half of the group's favourite food from the design canteen. Haha. TBB always orders chicken cutlet with spaghetti. Andrea and Clarissa would take chicken cutlet with nacho cheese, and Andrea would flood her plate with chilli sauce. Rest well everyone, Happy Chinese New Year. (:

Monday, February 4, 2008

I fell sick

Day 5 Block 1

I shall start numbering the day and block before each post for convenience sake. I fell sick today. There's a presentation tomorrow and I can't make it for school today. Heard from Andrea that they discussed about the presentation and spoke a little to Alfie. Nothing much to talk about today. I spent my time thinking of how we can arrange the events that are going to happen in our video so that it would be able to keep the attention of the audience and not appear boring halfway through.
Oh, I heard Clarissa's sick too. Get well soon! (:
Hopefully the presentation goes well tomorrow.
