The Ballad Of The Bao Monster

Today's lesson was on the content of video and what contributes to the style of a video.

Content of Video
  1. Interviews
  2. Interviewees
  3. Visual Overlay
  4. Opening (Intro)
  5. Closing
Alfie taught us how to make sure we accomplish our objectives, what we have to look out for to get the objective of the project. The Root Words. It was interesting as there were lots of funny analogies. After that we went off for a 20 minute break.

Our group went down to the canteen where I discovered the existence of a new creature roaming around the Designer's Pad. As we approached the drink stall of the Designer's Pad, we split up to get our own snacks and drinks. I headed over to get some baos. I got myself a brown paper bag for my bao and looked around for the thong. I found them in the hands of the mystical creature. It was retrieving baos from the steamer. I patiently waited my turn as it filled up it's paper bag with baos. It then started to look around, presumably looking for other food products to purchase. Just when I thought it was my turn to get my bao, it started taking more baos from the steamer. This went on for a while, until I got fed up and decided to buy something else instead. After paying for my snacks, I turned round to catch another glance of the creature and realised that it had emptied the steamer of all the baos, depriving anyone else from having a bao for the rest of the day. In it's hand was a tray on which balanced 7 or 8 paper bags of baos. I will never forget the first time I laid my eyes on the Bao Monster.

Back in class, we watched yet another documentary. The audio however, was not functioning properly, so we had to watch the film with an annoying noise that sounded like an electric shaver held too close to a microphone. After that we went into our groups and discussed about our project. We identified the problem in our current idea, and came up with ways to solve the problems. Clarissa also calculated roughly how long each segment in our video would take, and the total time of the whole video. We were dismissed after that.

With regards to.. (not again)

Today we had yet another combined class. We gathered in LT25 again, and were briefed on how we could spice up the intros and conclusions of our videos. The lecturers gave us ideas on how we could present our video, what techniques to use, what type of introduction/conclusions.

It started off with Alfie showing us the making of the Lord Of The Rings. He then went on to show us other films that used different techniques. After that Ronald showed us movies that had interesting introductions and conclusions. My favourite was the ending of 'Shoot Em' Up', where they inserted animated graphics into in the film. The last lecturer to brief us was Wahida. She showed us a few documentaries..
..
..
a lot of documentaries.
After the briefing, she asked us some questions and talked a 'little' bit more.

After everything, we got dismissed. With fresh ideas in my head, I wasted no time and headed straight for the.. CANTEEN. Chicken chop with nacho cheese.

And that was the end of Project 1 for the day.

Bursting Bubbles

Today we.. okay fine.

Yesterday, we discussed ideas on how we wanted our video to be shot.
We discussed things like the style that was going to be used, the content of the video, the order of which the content is going to be presented, and the intros and conclusions.

Andrea suggested a silent movie, Clarissa suggested a 'saw' kind of theme (don't know what she meant by that though), and I suggested a hand held camera style. In the end, we discussed a little and ended up with this super awesome idea of doing a news show.

In this super awesome news show, we would have a bimbo reporter (Andrea), and funny news feeds. In between, we planned to include fictitious advertisements to add more humour to our video. We gave random ideas on the different skits that we can have in our video, and they were all very funny. Everything was going fine and dandy until we told Alfie our ideas, and realised we have been focusing on the wrong point. We were more of showcasing our work than promoting our course.

After that we did some rethinking, we tried to think of other ways to do the skits instead of changing our entire main idea. Eventually Alfie gave us some pointers on how we should tackle the design brief for project 1, or all the projects we might be getting in the future for that matter.

That was pretty much all we did in class for the day, Alfie dismissed us after talking to the class. Overall, today I learnt to Alfie's secret to tackling project briefs which he said should be kept as a secret within our class. Teamwork was good, we all agreed with each other and everyone gave good suggestions.

Have a look at the photos we took in class.
